George Osipovitch Wins the 2010-2011 Tri-State Kickoff at Edison Billiards

Mark Alicea (2nd) & George Osipovitch (1st) On Saturday, July 24, Edison Billiards hosted the Tri-State Tour’s first stop of the 2010-2011 season.  This B/C/D Class tournament drew twenty-four players to the Edison, NJ pool room, where George Osipovitch went undefeated to win the top prize of $475 Sweeping through the winner’s bracket, George defeated Ben Sadowski 7-4, Mark Alicea 6-5, and Rick Shellhouse 7-5, when he met Duane “Wutang” Toney in the match for the hot seat, which ended in a close 7-5 score in favor of George. After having lost to George Osipovitch winner’s bracket, Mark Alicea (brother of top Tri-State player John Alicea) got busy working his way through the one-loss side.  In his first Tri-State event ever, Mark eliminated a list of many of the tour’s regulars, including Antonio Navarro 6-2, Dave Fitzpatrick 7-6, Gary Murgia 7-4, Ken DeBroske 6-5, and Duane Toney 7-3.  This set Mark Alicea up for a rematch with George Osipovitch, which would end with a landslide 6-2 victory for George.  Congratulations to George Osipovitch on this dominant win, and to Mark Alicea for a very strong 2nd place showing at his first-ever Tri-State appearance, along with Ken DeBroske who finished in 4th with a 6-2 win-loss record

Basdeo Sookhai Goes Undefeated to Win His First Tri-State Event at Master Billiards

Basdeo Sookhai On Saturday, April 11, 2010, Master Billiards in Sunnyside, Queens hosted the Tristate Tour. 24 players came out to compete in this $750-added B/C/D event, where Basdeo “Shawn” Sookhai came out on top to win his first Tri-State 9-ball event ever. En route to his victory, Basdeo maintained his winning streak by defeating Ramilo Tanglao (7- 6), Chris Karp (7-4), Trevor Heal (7-4), then thrashed Raphael Dabreo (7-1) and Gary Murgia (7-0) to move into the hot seat, guaranteeing a spot in the finals.

Scott Simonetti Runs Through the Field Undefeated to Claim at Tri-State Win at his Home Room Castle Billiards

Scott Simonetti The Tri-State Tour kicked off April with a stop at Castle Billiards in East Rutherford, NJ.  This event featured 47 of the toughest amateur players from New Jersey and New York who were ready to battle for the top prize of $800. However, the pool fans at Castle would not have to look too far for the top player on that day, as house player Scott Simonetti would run through the field undefeated to claim top honors. To secure a spot in the final match, Scott did not have much trouble… but his biggest challenge en route to the hot seat came from one of NY’s up-and-coming female players, Yomaylin Feliz , who ended the match by a close 8-6 score.  To secure a spot in the finals, Scott defeated Carl Sallo (7-2) in the winner’s side final four, followed by Tony Eglesias (7-2) for the hot seat

Geoffrey Bauer Makes an Undefeated Run for a Tri-State Win at Eastside Billiards

Sam Li (2nd), Geoffrey Bauer (1st), Alan Chan (3rd) On Saturday, March 6th, Eastside Billiards was host to the Tri-State Tour’s B/C/D class 9-ball event with $500 added to the prize pool.  This Upper East Side Manhattan hotspot would bring in a number of the areas top amateurs, but only one would walk away with the top prize of $440. In the final four of the winner’s bracket in this event, Alan Chan edged ahead of Sam Li to win 6-5, while Geoffrey Bauer sent Tony Eglesias to the one-loss side by another close 7-5 finish.  Bauer also relented in the match for the hot seat where he won the case game in a hill-hill battle against Alan Chan.

Wutang Masters the Tri-State 9-Ball Field

Finalists: Wilfredo Albay 3rd, Winner Duane Toney, 1st, and Raul Reyes, Jr 2nd place “Wu Tang” Duane Toney loves the game of pool. Student of the game, and fan of the sport… “Wu Tang” also proved his heart on the table as well last weekend. “Wu Tang” snapped off the 28 player Tri State 9 Ball Event at Master Billiards. The handicapped 9-Ball  C/D Tri-state event was held on Saturday 2/6/10 at the always tough to win at Queens pool room.

John Stiles (3rd), Borana Andoni (1st), Justin Muller (2nd) Borana Andoni finished off the month of January with a bang, as she went undefeated at the Tri-State Tour’s Gotham City Billiards B/C/D event on Saturday, January 30th, 2010.

Brooklyn’s Raphael DaBreo Takes Down the Tri-State at Master Billiards

Troy Deocharran (2nd), “Devil Dave” Ascolese (3rd), & Raphael DaBreo (1st) Master Billiards in Queens, NY was host to The Tri-State Tour on Saturday, December 5th.  This event was the tour’s second 10-ball tournament of the season, and this format was introduced to the tour for the first time this year. This event drew a field of 28 B/C/D players from around the New York area, including dedicated up-and-coming players like Scott Simonetti, Arturo Reyes, Justin Muller, Rene Villalobos, and veteran NY player “Devil Dave” Ascolese.  However, Brooklyn player Raphael DaBreo would dominate this field after returning from a hiatus from the game
