Down to the Final 32 of the World Pool Masters: Day 1-2 Highlights

This final 32 players will meet up same time, same place on Friday, but with a single elimination format which will thin the field once again… and this time if you lose, you’re out of there.

First Round at the World 8-ball Championships: Vincent Facquet Upsets Mika Immonen

Vincent Facquet With a field of international pool superstars on hand, the Etisalat WPA World 8-ball Championships moved into the elimination stages in Fujairah, UAE, on Monday, April 5th, 2010.  What I find to be most interesting about these high-caliber events is that while we in the U.S. may be familiar with names like Shane Van Boening , Mika Immonen , and Thorsten Hohmann , there are always a number of players from other parts of the world who have been flying under the radar who might surprise us. There have already been some upsets in the early rounds… and reigning World 10-ball Champion & US Open 9-ball Champion Mika Immonen fell victim to one of them, in the form of France’s Vincent Facquet, who defeated him 8-6.  In other highlights from the first day, England’s Karl Boyes , Darren Appleton , and Scott Higgins all made it through the right side of the bracket, along with USA’s lone representative Shane Van Boening and German favorites Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Souquet .

Etisalat WPA World Eight Ball Championships Kicks Off

2009 US Open 9-ball Champion Mika Immonen The WPA World Eight Ball Championships kicked off on April 4th at the Fujairah Tennis Club in Fujairah , which is in the United Arab Emirates. The event will run until the 10th of April, and is bringing many of the strongest players from all around the globe.

The first match up of the day was between 2007 US Open Champion Shane Van Boening and 2002 US Open Champion, Ralf Souquet .  Shane, who has twice played on losing Mosconi Cup Teams, told me that there was no way that he was not going to be on the winning team this year
